Health Care & Benefits

Prescription Coverage/Help

for the Uninsured/Laid-Off

Attention Local 547 Laid-Off Members:

As a benefit to you during the first twelve (12) months of your lay off, Local 547, in cooperation with MEBS and with Caremark, will provide, at no cost, a prescription drug discount card that will allow you to purchase prescription drugs at the best discount available, either at your local pharmacy or at a greater discount through mail order.  While this doesn’t “solve” your prescription drug concerns, it will help you during this difficult time while you obtain alternate employment.

Local 547 members and our extended families (brothers, sisters, parents, grandparents, children or grandchildren) are eligible to obtain a discount prescription drug card at a modest monthly cost.  Call Ann at 313.532.2022, ext. 31, for an application or more details.

Merck offers discounts to all uninsured Americans

Merck & Co. is to announce today it will launch a card that will discount its drugs for uninsured Americans regardless of their age or income. The card is to become available April 25 and is aimed at providing uninsured Americans with discounts of 15 percent to 40 percent for many Merck medicines. An ad campaign including print and radio spots to promote the card is slated to begin in May. Merck's card is the latest move from drugmakers to provide some aid to those struggling to buy medicines. The U.S. Census Bureau estimates there are 45 million Americans without health insurance. People canreceive a card by logging on to www.merckuninsured.com, calling 800-506-3725 or filling out forms that are to be available at doctors' offices and pharmacies.
