Mike Fitzgerald serves as Safety Director for I.U.O.E. Local 547. Mike has taken extensive training through the I.U.O.E. Health & Safety programs and is certified to teach a variety of Health & Safety courses. He is available to provide technical support to our units on Health & Safety issues.

Mike Fitzgerald also serves on the National Safety Council as the I.U.O.E. Local 547 Representative.

Health and Safety History

Local 547 has a long and proud history of work in the area of health and safety.

Local 547 and the International Union of Operating Engineers have been members of the National Safety Council for decades. We’ve proudly helped to pass legislation that led to OSHA, MiOSHA, and a broad range of state and federal health and safety standards, commissions, MiOSHA Boards, the MiOSHA appeals process, and the Labor Division of the National Safety Council to help protect your rights in the work place.

Over the years, Local 547 has received a number of grants from the State of Michigan to help provide training in areas affecting our members; Asbestos and IAQ to name a few.

Currently Local 547 has received a grant to assist members on basic safety training for operation and maintenance staff, as well as a safe driving program.
