Jeffrey Keeton

Assistant to the Business Manager

My name is Jeffrey A. Keeton, I am 55 years old. I have been married to my wife Claudia for 35 years. We have three children and five grandchildren. We live in the city of Hazel Park, which is a small community on the northern border of the city of Detroit. I have an AS degree from Madonna University. I began my career and labor in 1973 as a member of the bargaining committee for the Association that represented EMT’S and Paramedics employed by the Emergency Medical Service in the Detroit Fire Department. I was subsequently elected as president to what was then an independent Association. In 1988 our Association affiliated with the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 547. At that time, I became a Business Representative. I currently have 30 bargaining units for which I am the Business Representative. Geographically, they are primarily spread over the bottom half of the Lower Peninsula.

I am active in a number of organizations. I am the Labor Co-chair of the Michigan Labor/Management Association a statewide organization that promotes Labor/Management cooperation is a way of attaining mutual respect and labor harmony. I was appointed by the Governor to serve on the state’s Emergency Medical Service Coordinating Committee (EMSCC).I serve on Detroit’s Local Emergency Planning Committee. I’m also the president of the Emergency Medical Services Labor Alliance, this is an organization of Labor Unions representing, 12,000, EMTs and paramedics across the United States and Canada.

In my spare time, I feel that it is important to be involved in your community. I served as Mayor of the city of Hazel Park from 1991 to 1995, and I am currently a member of the City Council.
