Ennis McGee

City of Detroit Representative

I started working for the City of Detroit Public Library in 1975 at the main branch, as a student, while attending Cass Technical High School. After graduating in 1975, I went to Wayne County Community College for 2 Years.  In 1977, I received my first steam license from the City of Detroit. In 1979, I transferred to Wayne State University, while also attending Gemini School of fine Art and Design (never taken more then three classes at a time).  +

I’ve also had studies at the I.U.O.E local 547 Education Center, George Meany School of Labor Studies, and Labor class at Wayne State University. I was appointed to the position of Business Representative, for the City of Detroit, by Philip Schloop in 1994.

In addition to those duties, I also service the Detroit Public Library, Detroit Institute of Arts, Olympic Steel, Detroit Downtown Courtyard Hotel, and the Northwest Activity Center.

As a Business Agent the hours are long and the week is never ending, but servicing the members is a never-ending struggle for an agent of labor.

I have been blessed with 4 wonderful children (young adults) Vertesia (26), Ennis Jr. (25), Aaron (22) and Katherine (21) who mean the world to me.
